Dot.com to dot.bomb

Hmm... If I were asked to sum up what we had just learned... I'd have to say the AOL dinosaur was eating the Prodigy dinosaur ... and then everything just went downhill. I really don't understand how could something like this get so ... bubbly and explode. Seriously though, it just seems really weird since I was oblivious to any of this happening, happily playing on Neopets (my pet ruled at the time).

Topic for Presentation

The book I will be presenting is Burn Rate: How I Survived the Gold Rush Years on the Internet. I'm reading this book because from the start of class I've been curious about how the internet started and what it was like when I first ignorantly started to use it.

Services that are available

There are plenty of services that are available online. Some services allow you to communicate with other people through the internet and help you solve your problem. Others like Expedia allow you to compare and find flights with relative ease. One that I kinda find funny is homework help online. Not that I would need to use it, but its just kinda funny how something like this would be online. Some services like homework help though, I'd prefer to actually talk to someone and have someone physically in front of me.

Comfort in Purcashing Online

I am not really scared of purchasing things online. I actually think its quite addictive, especially since you have to wait for your purchase to come. You don't get that instant gratification when you buy something from a store. Anyway, I'm really used to buying things online, but a lot of my family members are really scared to buy things online because of theft.

Kevin Freitas

I really like what he has done with Feed Tacoma. Being able to make a site that is specifically for Tacoma and its bloggers by pulling their blogs and posting it on a single website is really amazing. There were a lot of things i liked on his site too. I really liked the random pictures, no real reason though.

Vanity Search

In Google, I had searched my name. Not surprisingly, my myspace link came up. However, there was another link that was about MESA (math, engineering, science, achievement) yearbook from 2001-02!!!! What's really weird is that I only went to one club meeting!!!! It's not the fact that I found myself in Google thats creeping me out... its the fact that something 5 years ago is saying I was part of that club! Too weird...

Guest Speaker

I thought it was cool how newspapers/blogs are focusing on local news since most newspapers talk about things internationally and what other news repeat. Mark Briggs also talked about newer ways to get some news like a website that lets you know where crimes are occurring so that you can avoid them, which is really funny and pretty sad at the same time. Podcasts of local areas also seems really cool since I never really see much news going on in Tacoma(or I haven't looked around much). Lately I've noticed that I have been paying attention to the news more then I used to... not by watching TV, but through the internet.

E-Mail similarities/Differences to real mail Thoughts

I've been using e-mail for as long as I can remember using the internet (9 years ish??) and I never thought that it mimicked the mailing system like it did. I thought it just sent the message to the person, but it goes through various servers before getting to its destination. It makes me wonder what else online mimics real life systems...
